| Winsham Sports and Social Club is located on
the Upper Recreation Ground , just off Bakersfield. The area is on a
long lease from Winsham Parish Council to the Upper Recreation Ground
Management Committee. It was built in the 1970s. Since then the Management Committee have undertaken many refurbishments, which have resulted in a very comfortable and welcoming environment, which is also very family friendly, and because of its green space location, away from roads, it is especially safe for children. It also has adequate parking. The club has a pleasant bar area, with plenty of comfortable seating , and a small but well equipped kitchen. The club facilities are available for hire , at modest cost, and as a result it is the venue for many parties and events. The Club's Management Committee also organises its own events, the most notable being the Annual Halloween Party-mainly for the benefit of the children who love dressing up, joined by many of the older people! Winsham United Football Club use the Club as their headquarters, and maintain the pitches which are immediately adjacent to the Sports and Social Club. An extension was built in the early 1980s to provide dressing rooms. A far cry from when the club used to play on a pitch beyond Western Way, on the way to Ammerham, and change at the back of the Jubilee Hall!
