The Winsham Grand Challenge
THE RESULTS

Remember the Grand Winsham Challenge which was a feature on the Winsham Parish Web site soon after the start of the lockdown? It ran for about three months, ending at the end of July. It also had a junior version, but this did not attract any support.

The purpose of the competition was to have some fun, and to help occupy minds during what would be a difficult time, while remaining within the rules of the lockdown.

Winsham Parish Council agreed to sponsor the event, handling the receipt of applications and contact with the judges, who were completely unaware of the identities of the entrants and their submissions.  The parish council is also managing the awards to category winners.

Sixty four entries were received by Winsham Parish Council, covering the seven of the nine original categories. No entries were received for two of the categories.

At the end of July, the competition closure date, these were forwarded to the two judges, Linda Piggott-Vijeh (our County Councillor) and Sue Osborn (our District Councillor). They then spent the next few weeks considering the entries. And now all is revealed-and a truly remarkable result has emerged.

One person was awarded first place in five of the categories:

JANE SIMKINS, has been awarded a Certificate for Outstanding Achievement in coming first in the following categories: ART, GARDEN, PHOTOGRAPHY, POETRY, WILDLIFE
