Grand Challenge for Juniors

If you are not yet a teenager, this is the challenge for you.

But it’s just not kids’ stuff!  The real challenge is to work on a project and finish it.

Here are the things you can choose from:

1.  Write a short story of not more than 500 words, about anything you like

2.  Draw a picture of your favourite animal - colour it if you want

3.  Draw a picture or make a model of your super-hero

4.  Grow your own vegetable from seed - in the ground or in a pot - and send us a photo before 31st July, when the competition closes.

5.  Embroider a picture of a flower, or anything else from nature

6.  Make up a poem about whatever you feel like

7.  Do a dance, or write a song - get someone to video you performing it and then put it on YouTube, and send in the link

The Rules

·     You need to live in the parish of Winsham, or go to Winsham School

·     You need to be under the age of thirteen

·     You can enter as many categories as you like, as many times as you like. Please send in your entry when you are satisfied with it - do not leave it to the last moment. You can always make more entries later on if you want

·     No charge for entries.

Have a go! It’s just for fun

How to submit entries

When sending in an entry or entries, which can only be done by email, please give your name, age, address, and phone number. You can ask a parent to help with this if you need to.   This is how to do it:

·     Entries to be submitted by email between 1st May and 31st of July to: jim.everard@winshamparishcouncil.org.uk .

·      The ‘Subject’ area at the head of the entry e-mail should read: ‘Junior Grand Challenge’ followed by category (or categories) number and name - for example, 1, ‘Short Story’, 6. Embroider - to which the entry relates.

·     Don’t forget to include:  name, age, address and telephone number.

·     The format for all pictures and photographs is as .jpg. These must be attachments to your e-mail entry - not copied onto the carrier e-mail

·     Musical entries should be downloaded on YouTube or similar and link given.

·     Written entries should be made saved as .pdf documents.  They should be submitted as attachments to your e-mail entry, and not copied onto the carrier email.

·     Entries will not be put on websites or social media or names published without your explicit permission.

·     A small panel of judges, appointed by Winsham Parish Council, will name a winner for each category.  No name should be attached to or written on the actual exhibit:  judges will not know the name of the entrant when judging. All entrants will receive a Certificate of Participation. Winners of each category will also receive a Winner’s Certificate.
